What The Storm Has Left
The world is in an exceptional situation due to the Corona pandemic, which will fundamentally change the lives of people everywhere. It has long been clear that women and girls are not only the hardest hit by the acute effects of the crisis, but that their efforts for self-determination, independence and equality will be permanently damaged. The reason for this is the still patriarchal structures in many countries of Southern Africa, whose strengthening during the crisis can be seen not least in the rising numbers of forced prostitution and domestic violence. In these societies, women are given an overflowing responsibility in the dual role of provider and housewife. In addition to caring for young and old family members, they work hard every day to provide the family with access to food and drinking water.
